Client Spotlight: Johnathan Marsh Smashes Oxford Half Marathon for Cancer Research UK

This past weekend marked a proud achievement for Hampshire Fitness Centre member Johnathan (Jonty) Marsh, who took on the Oxford Half Marathon in support of Cancer Research UK — and absolutely smashed his target time!

With the guidance of our in-house Personal Trainer John Ruffell, Jonty set himself the ambitious goal of completing the 13.1-mile course in under 1 hour and 50 minutes. After twelve weeks of structured, bespoke programming and disciplined training, he delivered an outstanding result — crossing the finish line in 1 hour 42 minutes.

The training plan designed by John Ruffell focused on building both endurance and speed, while carefully managing recovery and adaptation. Jonty’s commitment to every run, every session, and every gym workout has clearly paid off. His consistent effort meant that on race day, he not only achieved his target but did so with confidence, control, and even a smile.

This achievement reflects more than just a finish time — it represents hard work, resilience, and purpose. Jonty’s motivation to raise funds for a cause close to his heart added even more meaning to the journey, making the entire experience one to remember.

Both Jonty and coach John are delighted with the result, and proud of the dedication shown throughout the 12-week process. It’s another strong example of how structured training, teamwork, and personal commitment can deliver truly impressive outcomes.

Congratulations, Jonty, from all of us at Hampshire Fitness Centre — an incredible run, an inspiring effort, and a fantastic cause supported along the way.
